Need a different format?

This free JPG to PNG converter turns JPG (JPEG) photos into PNG right in your browser — in batches, with no upload, no signup and no watermark. PNG is a lossless format: once an image is a PNG, editing and re-saving it never degrades it again, which is exactly what you want for a file you will keep working on, hand to a designer or send to print. JPG works the other way round — every save re-compresses the picture and the damage accumulates. Two things to be honest about before you convert. Converting does not undo compression that already happened: it stops the losses from here on, it does not bring back detail JPG threw away. And it will not give you a transparent background — a JPG has no transparency to begin with, so a white background stays a white background in the PNG. Cutting a subject out of its background is a job for a background remover, which is a different tool from a format converter.

How to convert JPG to PNG

  1. 1

    Add your JPG files

Drag JPG or JPEG images into the upload area, or click to pick them. Add as many as you like — the whole batch is handled in one pass, and nothing is uploaded anywhere.

  2. 2

    Optionally cap the dimensions

There is no quality slider here and no background color to choose, because PNG is lossless: it writes out every pixel exactly as it was decoded from your JPG. The one optional control is the longest-edge cap — useful when the source is a full-resolution camera photo and you want smaller dimensions at the same time. Leave it off to keep the original size.

  3. 3

    Convert and download

Click Convert and every file is decoded and re-encoded locally in your browser. Download the PNGs one by one, or grab the whole batch as a single ZIP. Your original JPG files are left untouched.

Key features

Lossless from here on

PNG stores every pixel exactly. Once converted, you can open, edit and re-save the file as often as you like without the picture getting softer each time — which is precisely what happens to a JPG on every single save.

Built for editing and print

Image editors, layout software, print shops and design handoffs all want a lossless master. PNG survives crops, retouches and repeated exports without piling up new compression artifacts.

No transparency invented — and none lost

A JPG has no alpha channel, so there is no transparency to preserve and none to create: a white or colored background comes through unchanged. If you actually need a cut-out subject, that takes a background remover, not a change of format.

Batch conversion

Drop in dozens of JPGs at once, convert them all in a single click, and download everything as one ZIP instead of saving file after file.

Local processing · private

Conversion happens inside your browser, on your own device's CPU. The JPG files are never uploaded, never pass through a server and never touch a backend — private photos, ID scans and screenshots stay private.

Free, unlimited, no watermark

No signup, no email, no daily quota, no watermark stamped on the result. Convert one JPG or five hundred, as often as you like.

When to convert JPG to PNG

The file will be edited again and again

Retouching a photo over several sessions means saving it over and over. As a JPG every save costs a little quality; as a PNG it costs nothing, so the working file stays exactly as good as the day you started.

Handing artwork to print or design

Printers, agencies and layout tools ask for lossless masters. A PNG carries no fresh JPG block artifacts into the layout, and nobody has to guess what quality setting the file was last saved at.

A platform only accepts PNG

App icon pipelines, sticker and emoji uploaders, some documentation and slide tools and plenty of upload forms take PNG only. Convert first and the upload just works.

Reusable assets and screenshots

Logos, diagrams, UI screenshots and anything with sharp edges or text belong in a lossless format. Converting will not erase the artifacts a JPG already baked in, but it does stop new ones appearing every time the file is re-exported into a doc, a deck or a help article.

FAQ

Is this JPG to PNG converter really free?

Yes — completely free, with no signup, no email and no daily limit. There is no watermark on the converted PNGs, and no paid tier that unlocks a better conversion.

Are my JPG files uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using local JavaScript and canvas encoding. Your files are never uploaded, never stored and never seen by us — once the page has loaded, it even works with the network switched off.

Will converting to PNG give my image a transparent background?

No — and this is the single most common misunderstanding about PNG. PNG is capable of storing transparency, but a JPG never had any: it has no alpha channel at all, so every pixel, the white background included, is opaque. The conversion changes the container, not the content, so a white background stays a solid white background. Removing a background is a separate job for a background removal tool, which works out which pixels to erase — a format converter never does that.

Does converting JPG to PNG improve the quality?

No. PNG is lossless, so nothing more is lost — but nothing lost earlier comes back either. Whatever detail JPG compression discarded when the file was first saved is gone for good, and blocky skies, halos around text and smeared fine detail are copied into the PNG exactly as they are. Think of it as stopping the bleeding rather than healing the wound: from this point on, further edits and saves cost you nothing.

Why is the PNG so much bigger than the JPG?

Because lossless means storing everything. For photographic content a PNG is commonly two to five times the size of the JPG it came from, sometimes more — JPG buys its small files by throwing detail away, and PNG refuses to. Flat graphics, screenshots and line art compress far better and stay much closer in size. If the result is too heavy, cap the longest edge before converting.

Can I convert several JPG files at once?

Yes. Select or drop in as many JPGs as you want, convert the whole batch with one click, and download the results individually or as a single ZIP archive. It behaves the same in mobile browsers on iOS and Android, though a very large batch takes a little longer on a phone.

When should I keep the JPG instead?

When the file is a finished photograph that will only be viewed or uploaded. For a web page, an email attachment or a social post, JPG is far smaller and looks the same. Convert to PNG when the image will be edited further, sent into a print or design workflow, reused as an asset, or uploaded somewhere that accepts PNG only.
