This is a free video trimmer that works on the video files already sitting on your own device, and it never uploads a single byte. You pick a start and an end — drag the two handles along the timeline, or type the exact times into the boxes — and you get back an MP4 containing only that stretch. Nothing else about the video is touched: the picture is not resized, the frame rate is not changed, and there are no quality settings to get wrong, because cutting out one section is the entire job this page does. When you leave the start at zero and only cut the tail, the video is copied straight through without being re-encoded, so that part of the file comes out bit for bit identical to what went in and the run takes seconds even on a long recording. When you move the start forward, the selected stretch is re-encoded once so that it can begin exactly on the frame you chose, rather than at the nearest keyframe several seconds earlier the way a copy-only cut would force it to; the tool says which of the two is about to happen before you press the button, and holds the bitrate to the source's own average so the clip never comes out larger than the piece it was cut from. All of it runs on your machine, which matters most for exactly the files people need to trim: a two-hour meeting recording does not have to travel to a server and back before anything can begin.

Beyond the obvious privacy benefit, this is why the tool starts working immediately: an ordinary online trimmer has to receive your entire file before it can do anything, and for a long recording that upload is by far the slowest part of the job.
It depends on where you put the start. If you leave the start at zero and only cut the tail, the video is copied through without being decoded or re-encoded at all, so the picture is bit for bit identical to the original — there is no loss whatsoever. If you move the start forward, that stretch has to be re-encoded once, which is lossy; the tool holds the bitrate to the average of your source file so the clip stays close to it in both size and appearance, and it tells you which of the two is about to happen before you press the button. Either way your original file is never modified.
Yes. Video can only be decoded from a keyframe, which is why some trimmers move your start point back to the nearest one and quietly give you extra seconds at the front. This tool decodes the selection instead, so the first frame of the result is the frame that was on screen at the moment you chose, and the audio is cut to the sample. The only granularity left is the length of a single frame, about 33 milliseconds at 30fps. The price of that accuracy is the one re-encode described above.
Seconds (12 or 12.5), minutes and seconds (1:05 or 1:05.3), or hours, minutes and seconds (1:02:03.4). A full-width colon and a comma used as the decimal point are both understood, since those are what several keyboard layouts produce. A time past the end of the video is pulled back to the end. Something genuinely ambiguous — 1:75, for instance, which could be a typo for 1:15 or an odd way of writing 135 seconds — is refused rather than guessed at, because a wrong guess is worse than a second attempt.
The selection has to be at least 0.2 seconds, which is five or six frames at ordinary frame rates. Below that there is barely a frame to keep: many players show nothing at all, upload forms reject the file as invalid, and a start and end that are identical are not a selection in the first place. Dragging a handle simply stops at that distance from the other one; typing a start that sits at or after the end is refused with an explanation instead.
The input can be as long as you like — the file is read in pieces, so its size is not the limit. What is limited is the result, which has to be assembled as a single block of memory inside the browser tab; the size of the selection is estimated before the run and you are warned when it would be too large, rather than left to watch the tab die. Cutting only the tail is quick regardless of length, since nothing is re-encoded. Moving the start forward means real encoding work, so expect a long selection to take a while, and use the cancel button freely.
